Chile Tour Packages from India: Patagonia and Atacama

Torres Del Paine, Patagonia, Chile
Torres Del Paine, Patagonia, Chile

Chile stretches for more than 4,000 km, so a single trip can take you from desert to glaciers. For most travellers from India the headline is Patagonia: the Torres del Paine region, with mountain scenery and some of the best multi-day treks in South America.

Where to go in Chile

  • Torres del Paine: the granite towers, lakes and glaciers of southern Patagonia, and a major trekking area.
  • Atacama Desert: one of the driest places on Earth, with salt flats, geysers and clear night skies. San Pedro de Atacama is the usual base.
  • Santiago and Valparaíso: the capital and the colourful port city on the coast, with Chile’s wine valleys close by.
  • Lake District: volcanoes, forests and lakes in the south-central region.
  • Easter Island: a remote island reached by flight from Santiago.

Our Chile journey

Our current Chile trip is the Patagonia Trekking Adventure, 10 days. If you want the Atacama, the wine regions or a combination with Argentina, we design it to order. See also our guide to Argentina from India.

Do Indians need a visa for Chile?

Indian citizens generally need a tourist visa for Chile. Some sources say a valid US visa or US green card can exempt you, but the details differ between sources. Confirm with the Chilean embassy in New Delhi or the consulate in Mumbai before you book.

When to go

Patagonia’s trekking season is the southern summer, roughly November to March. The Atacama can be visited for much of the year. Santiago is pleasant in spring and autumn.

Getting there from India

Expect at least one connection and more than a day of travel. Many routes go via the Gulf, Europe or the Americas.
